One day in princess Diana’s life – In Pictures

After Diana and Charles’ separation in December 1992, the princess’s role was no longer what it had been. She lived a quiet life, and her daily routine rarely varied.

⏰Her day started promptly at 7 a.m.

She had a light breakfast. Most days, she would have pink grapefruit, home-made muesli or granary toast, or fresh fruit, yoghurt and coffee.

She then headed to the exclusive Chelsea Harbour Club for her daily workout. For privacy reasons, she avoided showering there, never knowing where intrusive eyes or hidden cameras might be.

Around 9 a.m., her hairdresser would arrive to attend to her hair. With Diana, a new hairstyle often seemed to reflect a new chapter in her life. While he worked, she would be on the phone in her bedroom, chatting with friends. She seemed light and chatty in the morning.

After some pampering, she started working on her correspondence together with her private secretary, and her other secretaries. She opened much of her mail herself and wrote many personal replies.

From around 10 a.m., she liked to call friends. On days when she felt low, restless or lonely, she would do some shopping to cheer herself up. She also made weekly visits to her therapist and scheduled what she affectionately called ‘Pamper Diana’ days, indulging in various New Age therapies. It was her way of tending to herself emotionally, mentally, and physically.

At lunchtime, she might meet friends at a restaurant, or occasionally host a business lunch at home. Though, most of the time, she ate a modest meal alone at Kensington Palace.

After lunch, she could receive official visitors connected with her charities or other people she was involved with, or spend an hour or so catching up with her correspondence. Some days she would visit her offices at St James’s Palace, or drive to the boys’ schools, watching them play in their sports teams.

On summer afternoons she would spend hours sitting in the garden, engrossed in the latest blockbuster novel.

Sometimes she went to the cinema. But more often than not she spent her evenings alone, retiring to bed to eat a light supper from a tray and watch television.
